3-Storey 12-unit Classroom Block for Odorkor Maclean School

Project Description:

As can be seen from the pictures, construction of this project is on hold. According to the project documents available to TransGov, it was supposed to have been a 3 storey 12 unit classroom block, but site inspection tells a different story. The first floor has not been completed and the building has hence been roofed to enable students to use the facility. The iron rods earmarked for continuation of the storeys have all been bent to accomodate the roof. Furthermore, the temporary structure this project was supposed to have replaced is still in use and as of the time we visited this site, the structure was in a very bad condition. Check out the pictures below! Ostensibly, this project forms part of government's efforts to expand educational facilities in the country to end the shift school system. Investigations have revealed that certain schools in Greater Accra still practice this system as a means of containing the increasing numbers of pupils being enrolled. In the shift system, students are grouped into morning and afternoon sessions as a means of controlling the numbers and enhancing teaching and learning.
