This project is one of the Millennium City schools being undertaken by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The classroom block is disability friendly and comprises of science and computer laboratories, a library, washrooms and a kindergarten. The construction of the educational facility forms part of the government’s commitment to support all assemblies to provide the needed infrastructure, such as educational facilities in the various MMDAs.
When last the TransGov team visited the site, the building did not have a roof as is evident in the pictures below. The new update is that the building has been roofed and is being completed. Even though the project is way past schedule, the contractor informed us that it should be ready for use by the students by the middle of 2017. The Kindergarten has, however, been completed.
When the TransGov team visited the project site, work was steadily progressing, but the contractor could not keep his promise of completing the project by the middle of this year. Another problem the contractor says he's grappling with is the fact that whenever it rains, the whole of the ground floor gets flooded and unreachable. This brings up the question of who chose this particular site as the project site without doing the due diligence required to know that this site gets flooded whenever it rains. We'll keep you updated in the coming months on the progress of this project. Click the images tab below to see the pictures from our latest project site visit.
